Course Outline:
The integration of seismic techniques with stratigraphic principles has added a major dimension to exploration. Commonly referred to as Seismic Stratigraphy this area of contemporary methodology has the determination of lithology from the seismic response as its primary objective, and operates at two levels:
|
1) The regional concept of Peter Vail and the original group from Exxon using regional seismic lines to interpret stratigraphy and the depositional environment.
2) The derivation of the seismic wavelet for more local stratigraphic interpretation purposes such as pay thickness, porosity, gas saturation and lithology. This includes aspects of thin bed resolution, hydrocarbon indicators and A.V.O. techniques.
|
This five-day course will cover the principles of both of these techniques and will emphasize the seismic applications rather than the mathematical theory.
By combining the lectures with extensive workshops, the participant will develop a high degree of confidence in interpreting stratigraphy from seismic data.
