SEISMIC BASICS

Duration: 2 days

Designed for: Participants who should attend include secretarial, administrative, legal, computer, financial and related oil industry disciplines seeking to increase their understanding of this modern and significant aspect of oil and gas exploration and development.

Course Outline:

In modern exploration for oil and gas, geophysics is the key to success, particularly in offshore and frontier areas. Contemporary geophysics (gravity, magnetic methods and particularly seismic) provides the necessary technology to remote-sense the structural or stratigraphic reservoir and reduce the drilling risk. Seismic also plays a significant role in reservoir delineation and development.

This 2-day course will present the basic principles in a non-mathematical, tutorial and intuitive fashion with numerous exercises. The course will cover methods of data acquisition, processing and interpretation in an illustrative fashion.

It is a brief yet illuminating introduction to the types of things that geophysicists are attempting to accomplish with seismic data. There is no mathematics or theory involved.

Course Content:
  • The Basic Simplicity
  • Anatomy of A Seismic Section
  • Anatomy of A Ripple
  • The Anatomy of A Wavelet
  • The Convolution Model
  • Modelling
  • The Synthetic Seismogram
  • Resolution & Tuning
