Course Outline:
Petroleum geologists have learned to visualize, conceptualize and quantify rock properties and lithologies from the dimensions of their physical properties graphically presented in well logs. The challenge is to become equally comfortable in conceptualizing seismic data.
The explorationist must be adept at moving from the dimension of seismic data to the conceptualization of structure, stratigraphy, depositional environment and reservoir.
This 5-day seminar is the author's perennial flagship. This course has been given to over 3000 participants in many countries and has been continuously updated to include modern trends in geophysics as they affect the exploration geologist. Non-mathematical in its treatment of seismic fundamentals it inspires understanding and confidence in geologists wanting to learn the basics, the limits and the benefits of modern seismic techniques.
The material covers the history of geophysical techniques: Basic Reflection Seismology, Acquisition of Seismic Data, Data Processing, "Bright Spots", Seismic Stratigraphy, Modelling and A.V.O. techniques. It will cover both structural and stratigraphic interpretation, including 2-D and 3-D.
The emphasis is on the concept of a wavelet and its significance in the total seismic - geological interpretation process. The course is punctuated with workshop exercises and is well illustrated with synthetic and real data examples. |
